My name is Lovinia Dickens, and from my earliest memory, reading, writing, and hearing words has always given me a great thrill. There is nothing more satisfying than losing yourself in a wonderfully written book. Spelling and punctuation mistakes don’t lend themselves to achieving a polished, finished work, so my aim is to bring your work up to its full potential.
Completing the Proofread Anywhere General Proofreading: Theory and Practice™ course, which I achieved in January 2018, entailed proofreading many types of documents, which, in turn, required constant reference to the Chicago Manual of Style and other like publications.
I have a Bachelor of Arts with a double degree in History and Ancient History. Completing this degree required the same diligence and attention to detail that a competent proofreader needs to demonstrate. Leaving out a comma in an academic essay or bibliography, and getting “hauled over the coals” for such an error correlates missing a grammar, punctuation or spelling mistake spoiling an otherwise beautifully crafted manuscript or another form of writing.
My background is in music which, at first glance, doesn’t appear to relate to proofreading. However, both the performance and writing of music and the skill necessary to accurately proofread require focused attention to detail.
I am a native English speaker, educated and based in Australia, but all references used are US English publications.
